 Jesuit Chennai Province Ordination 2024

To act with God’s Love

Celebrating its Centenary year, Loyola College, Chennai, hosted the Ordination of Jesuit Chennai Province for the very first time in its premises on the 31st of August 2024. With Iraiyanbai Iyangida – To act with God’s Love to be their motto seven deacons, Six from Chennai Province and one from Delhi Province, were raised to the order of priesthood by Most. Rev. Jeevanandam Amalanathan, Bishop of Kumbakonam. The solemn Ordination ceremony began at 10 am in the legendary Bertram Hall with the Eucharist concelebrated by more than 100 priests and with more than 1200 people in attendance. In his homily, the ordaining prelate appreciated the motive of the newly ordained, as put down in their motto, to live out the love of Christ and to share it with others. He stressed that priests should go beyond themselves and their families to serve the people of God. And that they are called to live out their lives in a saintly manner as mentioned in the prayer of anointing.

The newly ordained priests released their co-authored new book titled, Puthupadaippakkidum Aruladaiyaalangal – Sacraments that make us new creatures, a historical, biblical outline to the seven sacraments, compiled by Fr. Raj Irudaya, Superior of Arulkadal.

All the family members, well-wishers and friends of the new priests, went home with hearts filled with gladness rejoicing at their contribution of seven more priests to serve the Catholic Church. May their tribe increase for the greater glory of God and pray many more opt to serve God inspired by their exemplary lives.
